My name is Tim Canty,
I have practical and communication skills in the Area of ICT enabling me to
relate to a wide range of people either working on either my own or as a team member. I am capable of meeting tight deadlines through having high motivation and concentration levels. My basic career goal at present is it obtain a position in the area of web design/Network maintenance or related activity.

Key Skills
Team Work:
• Successful course work was dependent upon participation and motivation
of project groups
• Experience of working within a team-based culture involved planning,
organisation, co-ordination and commitment.
Problem Solving:
• When confronted with a challenge I work to gather the facts, analysing
these in detail. I have improved upon these skills during my degree course.
• Working in a number of situations has taught me to find effective
solutions in a calm and efficient manner. I seem to have a natural bent for
the world of IT.
• I have a basic talent towards fixing things in many practical areas
of life as well as in the world of IT. This causes me to me always being sought
out by folk to help them with their projects or in helping them with practical
problems and needs.
Communication:
• Communication is something I have to work on as I am naturally a quiet
person.
• On a volunteer basis I help in children & youth group work. This has required me to communicate clearly to numbers of children and youth.
• Helping users during my work with World Minerals has also been very
useful in improving spoken communication and how to create clear and concise instruction on using their systems.
• Working on team projects in my degree and in Holland has helped me to develop further in this because of the different roles one experiences in such situations. This helped me to gain more negotiation skills.
Languages:
• After living in Holland for a few months working with an international team of people to create a multi-cultural/multi-lingual website I picked up Dutch and several other languages sufficiently to get by. Languages are not my strongest point but I found simple ways to get round such issues.Enthusiastic, energetic, adaptable, patient and friendly:
• Within work and personal situations I have proved to be patient, and friendly.
• I am naturally practical, adaptable and willing to put effort in to do what’s needed and to go that extra step that makes the difference between success or failure.
Computing:
Although I am young and know there is still a lot to learn I believe that the following practical skill range can be useful to prospective employers.
• My computer skills range from using and problem solving in packages such
as Microsoft Office to managing networks as well as creating Database driven
websites, and programming applications in languages such as VB.net.
• The list is always expanding as I work always at improving my range of skills.
• Here is a list to give an idea of what I can currently do :
Hardware Installation I have installed hundreds of pieces of hardware to computers and servers.
This includes researching and building a number of computers from scratch. Software
Installation I have installed and configured a number of different software
solutions from simple programs to full operating systems such as Windows server
2003 ,Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista and backwards to DOS as well as recovering
and extracting historical data from dodgy hard drives,
Software
I have worked with the Microsoft operating systems for several years, and can configure these in a number of different ways including network installations.
Network administration NT/2000 and 2003
This includes the installation and configuration of servers and general day
to day running of networks localy and remotely from general user management
tasks throught to setting up services ranging from domain controllers, terminal
servers, file and print sharing, exchange, dns, wins, mssql, virus systems,
iis and many other services.
I have used many remote control systems including: Remote Desktop, Vnc, Dameware,
PC anywhere, logmein.
I have also configured a Substantial amount of network devices such as routers,
access points, print servers, vpn boxes, with makes such as CISCO, linksys,
netgear.
Experience in configuring servers to work as web servers, including installation
of services such as PHP and PostGresSql
Extensive knowledge of programming web sites, especially concentrating on the back end of the sites, with PHP MYSQL and/or PostGresSql, and more basic knowledge of languages such as PERL, ASP and JSP. Macromedia suite,
I have used the macromedia studio to create websites/presentations and much
more. In addition I can use a variety of programming languages in developing/
creating Web sites.
A have also had experience in intregating systems such as applications such
as goldmine, dimensions, touchstar.
Configuration of MS Office Suite in multiple environments
I have configured the MS office suite for single users and multiple user/computer and mobile configurations.
Extensive skills in using and assisting user’s of the MS Office Suite
I have used the suite personally for a number of things including all my coursework.
Backup systems,
I have been involved in helping keep backup systems running and restoring critical
files.
Virus Systems
I have installed a number of virus systems from per computer to network based systems, Various Applications and systems including company bespoke and corporate systems with some internet based.Practical skills with mobile communication computer linking such as Bluetooth etc.
Work Experience
I have several years of involvement with an international company based locally providing various problem fixing, computer installation and user support on an ad hoc work experience basis. I also have designed a working important key data base for their sales department which they have used for several years. As the IT department of this company is based in Paris France it is a little remote often when real world of work problems occur.
The UK office up until 2004 was on its own production site, the production
has now been moved to one of its other production sites in Barcelona and the
offices needed to move site so the old site could be sold off. In this situation
I helped move the computer and communication network from their old site to
their new one. My main involvement was physically moving the equipment and servers,
and reinstalling them in the new office, this included a lot of configuration
of their systems and installing and checking new cat 5 cables.
My Current Job as in ICT Support and developement officer at a local company
has helped me expand on my skills and giving me a good grounding in the way
buisnesses operate. I have been involved in many projects as the company expands
its IT systems to help expand the productiveness of the staff. As part of these
projects I have had a key role in liasing with the external companys to implement
the systems in a way that best suites the company.
Within the role i have actively seeked to help improve the systems, as part
of this i have designed and written a number of applications that are now key
to the staff that use them. The applications are written in VB.NET with intergration
betweem Goldmine, Dimensions, touchstar and also interact with SQL databases
directly.
Web Sites
I worked in Holland for several months as a key leader in a volunteer team developing a multi lingual, multi user web site. My role was to create the initial database structure and help organise the site and other team members to work on the site together as a team.
I continue to have an active part in keeping the project running, and developing new features working with the Mysql database to store all the content and users.
In addition I have designed and created several other working Web sites from scratch including one for the BP Pensioners society.
My most recent project involved creating a subscription based site that is streaming audio and video, with new streams daily. My main role was to create the site and all the structure including the database. Creating the right structure is crucial to the success of the site, due to the users and amount of storage
required.

BSc (Hons) Internet computing
A three year degree course on internet computing, anticipate graduating with an Upper Second Class Honours Degree. (2.1 ) The Lincoln course “BSc (Hons) Internet Computing aims to equip graduates for employment or further study in the area of Computing and Networks, with particular emphasis upon the Internet, the WWW, E-commerce and Web Site Development.“ During this course I also developed my own unique database content management system – ( PHP scripted) which works across several operating system platforms. This is now in every day use in several active Web site situations.
South Hunsley School (sixth form): September 2000 to 2002
VCE Advanced ICT
A two year Advanced VCE coarse covering 12 units, giving me a firm start in most areas in the ICT area. I completed this course at the very top of the class receiving a special plaque for outstanding performance. The final Grade of this course was a BB.

Interests And Activities
Sound, video and lighting for events etc.
Since the age of 10 I have been working on my own and with teams to provide on a volunteer basis a range of technical services for events. For a while I owned my own professional sound system but I have moved on to mainly Lighting/Video for events etc. which I find more creative.
I currently own my own lighting rig that I use to provide on a volunteer basis
creative lighting for a number of bands and events across the region in an evening or the weekend.
Whilst I enjoy this activity greatly I have not allowed it to get in the way
of study. I also have active involvement in Children’s and Youth work.
